On January 24, 2023, we proudly launched our newest product, SHIFT Cloud. This product is the culmination of thousands of hours of research and development, combined with the input from hundreds of client migrations. We decided to build SHIFT Cloud because we saw an incredible need in the industry to provide a self-service translation tool that not only provided wide coverage but delivered translated code with a high degree of accuracy and performance.
It is well understood that artificial intelligence and machine learning is vital to the financial performance of any company. This requires massive amounts of data and code on a cloud computing platform. Unfortunately, the most valuable corporate data and code remain on legacy systems. To a large extent, these legacy systems are outdated, making it virtually impossible to extract meaningful insights. Hence, those companies that can get to the cloud, first, will win. So herein lies the opportunity – and the challenge.
With companies needing to react to uncertain economic conditions, there is no better time to embrace cloud computing. We’ve been in ‘uncertain economic times’ since the pandemic. Perhaps the economy has slowed down, but there is still pent-up demand for the cloud. The difference being, today companies are being more purposeful with their spend and more mindful of building resilience in their business. Again, the business case for the cloud is strong.
This opinion is supported by a recent article in CIO; which states that making the most of what the cloud offers will be one of the major challenges IT leaders will face in 2023. In particular “Balancing the finances of a cloud migration and contending with rising cloud costs will be a significant issue for organizations in the year ahead”.
To address these concerns our Next Pathway engineers have been reimagining what code translation should be, what it could be and what it needs to be to ensure migrations are cost-effective and efficient.
We’ve taken the bold move to completely rebuild our SHIFT technology from the ground-up, with the mindset of putting the ‘power of code translation in the hands of our customers’. Ensuring that it’s been designed with the end-customer in mind – providing a simple, reliable, cost-effective, and fast method of translating virtually any legacy source to any cloud target.
This journey wasn’t easy; but most things in life that are worth it, rarely are. I am extremely proud of our engineering team, and I am very excited to put SHIFT Cloud in the hands of our customers and partners.
