According to a study published by the Harvard Business Review and the enterprise data company ClouderaIt, 54% of IT managers expect the amount of data their businesses store in public cloud-based servers to increase within the next calendar year.
While it is commonplace for companies to utilize cloud-based solutions for data storage, what is becoming even more popular is the increased desire for artificial intelligence and machine learning platforms to be implemented into these cloud-based solutions as well. This same half of the businesses plan to roll out artificial intelligence and machine learning platform implementations by the year 2022.
So, what is the advantage of moving past just base data architecture and storage within a cloud infrastructure? That’s a great question and the answer isn’t quite as precise and attainable as we might want it to be. While the vast growth in data science - a merging of computer science and statistical analytics - has sparked interest and shown promising results in business intelligence, it is still a young field. By this, I mean that while almost every business will say they would love to roll out machine learning and artificial intelligence platforms to provide them with actionable deliverables, how exactly those come about is oftentimes misunderstood.
While people in various industries can tell you what they hope these platforms will deliver in terms of results and end products for their company, very few are able to implement migration safely and successfully.
The challenges that your business must be willing to address when it comes to artificial intelligence and machine learning boil down to “What do we want to learn?” and “Who’s going to teach us?” You can go to any freelancing site and find countless individuals advertising themselves as “data scientists'' ; however, this field is so immensely vague and broad that, without proper vetting and interviewing, it can be difficult to ensure that the people you hire to bring these projects to fruition are actually qualified to do it. Thus, it is best to do some upfront research for yourself and chat with the right companies and be prepared with what objectives you would like to achieve. The right team and company will be able to discuss the benefits of public cloud and start a successful project for
the transition.
