It was just a year ago when together with Snowflake we announced a strategic partnership. With this partnership, Snowflake is leveraging Next Pathway’s technology, SHIFT™, to accelerate the data migration of legacy workloads to Snowflake’s data cloud.
It has been quite a year for both of us.
In mid-September, Snowflake stunned Wall Street with the largest software IPO in history, selling 28 million shares amid raising nearly $3.4 billion. This was not only a testament to Snowflake’s Data Cloud, which allows for better, faster access to critical data, but also a shout out to the business community that the digital revolution was gathering momentum.
We never had any doubt that Snowflake would become a leader in the cloud data warehouse space. As an early partner of Snowflake, we were involved in many proof-of-concepts (POC), which allowed us to demonstrate to enterprise companies how quickly and seamlessly we could translate their legacy workloads to SnowSQL, Snowflake’s native language.
Fast forward to November 2020, and of the more than 100 million lines of code SHIFT™ has translated, more than half— 56.7 million – were to Snowflake. We have also translated 10,000 ETL jobs, across 38 companies, and 2,000 BI reports for migrations to Snowflake.
Over the past year we’ve invested heavily in solving the technical challenges from an “end-to-end” data migration perspective – from planning, translation, migration, testing, performance optimization and modernization. We’ve enhanced our translation capabilities; we’ve incorporated advanced testing to ensure our translated code can be immediately accepted upon migration and we’ve launched complementary products such as Crawler360 which provides insights into the legacy code prior to migration.
The new normal is cloud operating, and we are just at the beginning of the cloud computing revolution. For enterprises, the migration to the cloud is a foundational step to digitizing their business. Organizations are feeling a sense of urgency to rapidly re-platform their business to the cloud. This is in part due to their need to be more agile and nimble, but, in many cases their legacy environments are becoming overbearing to manage and too expensive to operate.
Data exchanges, advanced analytics and AI capabilities, intelligent profiling to secure data on the fly, etc. – the opportunities are endless within the cloud, and companies like Snowflake and Next Pathway are primed to deliver.
We are pleased and proud of our partnership with Snowflake; but moreover, we are excited to be part of a revolutionary period in technology.
